Primobius GmbH

Primobius is a German-based engineering company providing end-to-end solutions for industrial-scale lithium-ion battery recycling plants worldwide. They design, build, and commission integrated recycling facilities covering the full process, from battery discharging and dismantling through mechanical processing and hydrometallurgical refining.

Their innovative multi-stage recycling process achieves recovery rates of more than 97% for critical battery metals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. Designed for flexible feedstocks, including NMC, LFP, and mixed black mass, the process focuses on low energy and reagent consumption, as well as minimal wastewater generation. Operations comply with internationally recognised management standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.

Mercedes-Benz selected Primobius as its technology partner to build an industrial-scale battery recycling plant in Germany, reflecting its strategic aim to close the material loop and recover valuable raw materials for use in future electric vehicles. As part of the SMS group, they operate within an established international engineering and project execution environment.
